J.T. Harris: Veterans Festival and Memorial Ride…Never Forget…
This Saturday June 18th, the people of Lexington and the High Rock Lake community will be hosting an event at the Lexington Fair Grounds (off Hwy 64 and Hwy 29/70). This event is a Memorial Ride in remembrance of PO1 Joshua T. Harris, a local Navy Seal that died during combat in Afghanistan in August of 2008. This ride honors J.T. Harris’ life and the lives of other military men and women who serve and have served our country.
This event kicks off at 10am when the vendors and exhibits open. There will be plenty of food and entertainment until the motorcycle ride starts at 11 am. Food items that will be sold are Lexington Style BBQ, all the normal fair foods, and frozen drinks. Local bands will be taking the stage throughout the day including South of Normal, Jody Lee Petty Band, and the Ross Coppley Band. There will also be opportunities to buy gifts, purchase raffle tickets for a prize worth over $3,000.00, and enter a 50/50 drawing. The kids will not be bored either; there will be plenty of stuff for them to do (bounce house, inflated slide, dunking booth, and NASCAR teams will be there displaying their cars). The riders will be leaving from the Parkway Plaza and return at the fair grounds at 12 pm. After the ride, motorcycle owners can enter their bike into the “Baddest Bike of the Carolinas” contest.
For ALL You Bike Owners: if you are interested in participating in the Memorial Ride, registration begins at 8:30am at the Parkway Plaza. The cost for a single rider is $15 and $20 for two riders. If you aren’t interested in participating in the ride, but want to enter the “Baddest Bike of the Carolinas” contest the cost will be $10.
